Mmmm, summer! Those long, sunny days, with plenty of time for relaxing at the lake or pool, catching up on your "honey-do" list around the house, traveling, or pursuing educational opportunities. Here's what your MRC GEM unit has been up to this summer:

On July Fourth, we premiered MRC GEM's informational display at the Old Courthouse during Gwinnett Glows. Along with members of other volunteer groups, we took advantage of the enthusiastic crowds celebrating Independence Day to talk up the Medical Reserve Corps concept, hand out promotional materials, and reach out to potential new members.
Lessons learned:
Manning the info table and meeting all kinds of interesting people can be a lot of fun.
Giveaway water bottles imprinted with the MRC GEM logo and website are really popular, especially when the temperature tops ninety degrees!

Then on July 30th, several MRC GEM members attended the first annual Gwinnett Citizen Corps Volunteer Recognition event. Once again, we had a chance to perfect our display set up/take down skills...practice makes perfect! We had the opportunity to mix and mingle with volunteers from other groups, and to hear about each group's functions. Our own Executive Director, Sherwin Levinson, updated the audience on MRC GEM's progress. Five MRC GEM members were recognized for their service in the past year: Lynda Flage, Maricel Haynes, Judee Levinson, Sherwin Levinson, and Jim Marchand. And in a stunning surprise, our own Sherwin was revealed to be the Gwinnett County Citizen Corps' Volunteer of the Year! Way to go, Sherwin!

So, as you can see, MRC GEM has had a busy and productive summer so far, and it's not even August yet!
